O, planet Earth Rolling on your gyroscopes In the womb of mother universe Through the cold and endless space Sharp spikes of the stars Raping my eyes On this mystic journey To nothingness Drone of this colossal perpetual motion Fills the scorched tunnels of eternity Sound that becomes dark matter And the fire which gives birth to the worlds Temple of my body Is ruined to dust And my soul turns To the stellar light To the timeless void -Beyond life- The ocean of dark -Cold embrace- Breathless I fall free -Leaving shell- Transcending human’s being -Above existence-

Megalith Levitation — mystics from Ural mountains are here with the new LP — Void Psalms.
After hypnotic "Acid Doom Rites" and cosmic split album with Dekonstruktor the occult trio have came up with 53 minute long Magnum Opus containing unforgiving draconic heaviness in style of Saturnalia Temple, proclamations, akin to what we can hear in Horse Latitudes and trance like monotonous grit, bridging the sound with already mentioned Dekonstruktor. Artwork from GodLikeIkons invokes imagery from the beginning of 20th century, when the Western world has discovered The Fall of Man. So seek out the Temple of Silence and sink deep into the Void Psalms.

Void Psalms.

doomedandstoned.com premiere by Billy Goate:
Known as the “mystics from Ural mountains,” MEGALITH LEVITATION return following their mesmerizing 2019 debut, Acid Doom Rites, to bring us the harrowing follow-up full-length, ‘Void Psalms’ (2021). 53-minutes in length, it is a magnum opus indeed for the dank trio from Russia.

Irradiated feedback joins the damning strains of the opening chords that introduce the album opener, “Phantasmagoric Journey.” The rhythm pulls us into a slow-churning dirge that inspires a deeply felt bodily response, one in which I found myself almost involuntarily (it’s hard to tell) closing my eyes and swaying in harmony, as brick upon brick of its mysterious sonic masonry was laid down before me. It’s as though I’m listening to OM trip on some bad acid, trancing out as nightmarish forms shift shapes all around them. To call it haunting would be something of an understatement.

The band describes the aura this way:
"A journey to uncharted corners of consciousness. Cognition of the macrocosm through the microcosm. Near-death experience giving an understanding of the infinity of being and the universe."

Next, we encounter the diad “Datura Revelations/Lysergic Phantoms” and the tempo quickens (in doom measurements of time, of course) so that we’re swept away by an undertow of murky psychedelic textures, dark bass tones, and esoteric atmosphere. It gets a lot stranger once that lysergic stuff kicks in, but by now I’m absolutely grooving with this bizarre, but oddly comforting vibe.

Again, we turn to Megalith Levitation for insight:
"The energy of the ancient fire that gave life to everything on Earth. The all-destructive power of the same fire, which will turn even the stars to dust. All of this is here, in the chains of your DNA. Guides will show you the way and you will see everything for yourself."

“Temple of Silence/Pillars of Creation” is another juxtaposition of two songs in one. It made me think of the sluggish tone that Electric Wizard greeted us with on that last album, which some hated but absolutely struck a chord with me. You have to go through some shit to gel with certain kinds of metal, yes even certain stripes of doom. This isn’t going for a grab-you-by-the-nutsack-and-squeeze kind of effect – a loop that so much of heavy music has been stuck in for the last 20-some years.

For those whose souls who wasted away under pandemic lockdowns and lost jobs, during which institutions failed us, heroes disappointed us, and the future evaded us, there’s something truly consoling in hearing sounds that get that precise emotion-to-music translation of “alone/lost” right. In fact, I do believe Megalith Levitation would encourage you to embrace it and grab a new reality for yourself:
"Everything that surrounds you is just an illusion. Evil, good, black and white. Everything is just the figment of the imagination. And you are caught in this hustle and bustle forever. There is only one place where you can find peace. But can you find your way to the temple of silence?"

By far the biggest slowburner of the lot, the second-half calms our spirits and brings us into a meditative state of radical acceptance and imagination of endless possibilities. In the last two minutes, the pot is indeed boiling and our heartbeats quicken realizing that we may be in some way entangled in this Matrix but maybe, just maybe, we can tinker with things so the sun shines a little more in our private world.

“Last Vision” is the final number of the set, and the shortest. After that last slab of granite, it feels like a coda. I’m glad it’s here, too. It reinvigorates the animal senses that keep us alive, fused with a new mindset that accepts the inevitability of fate. Again, the band says its best:
"The collapse of everything. End of the world. How many times will humanity experience this? In the darkness within our hearts, we are blind and cruel. This circle is endless."

It’s a rhetorical question that demands our collective concentrated thought, priority, and energy – though I am tempted to glibly suggest that we just turn the whole shebang over by cats and dogs to rule the planet a century from now (unless they decide to take it from us before then).

Today, Doomed & Stoned is pleased to give you an advance listen to the entire new album, which releases on CD, cassette, and digital formats on October 1st (pre-order here). Autumn may have started last week, but I think we can officially welcome the gloomy, rainy days of fall with the release of Megalith Levitation’s Void Psalms. For fans of Electric Wizard, Saturnalia Temple, Zaum, and Serpentine Path.

Give ear…

toxicmetalzine.com review by Jason Hesley:
"From the dark shadows of Russia, MEGALITH LEVITATION returns with their second album “Void Psalms”, due out on 1st October 2021 via Aesthetic Death (CD), Addicted Label (digital) and Pestis Insaniae Records (tape).

Travelling along an endless path.

Traversing an endless dirge.

Enter the lysergic world of MEGALITH LEVITATION – journey through a transcendental world, and enter into a higher state of doom.

Spiralling into the void through these four stripped back unrefined visions. The emphasis being on trance-like chants, heavy monolithic slabs and riffs from the eternal chasm of the soul.

This is for those uncivilised doom addicts who are still chasing that next dirty high from the heavy lysergic riff.

Sink deeper into doom intoxication from 1st October 2021."

Russian violanoir.com review by Viola Eskina:

Temple of Silence/Pillars of Creation

theobelisk.net review by JJ Koczan:
"Heavy and ritualized enough to earn its release on 50 neon green tapes — CDs too — the second full-length from Russia’s Megalith Levitation, Void Psalms tops 53 minutes of beastly lurch, with opener “Phantasmagoric Journey” (13:08) playing like half-speed Celtic Frost while the back-to-back two-parters “Datura Revelations/Lysergic Phantoms” (12:47) and “Temple of Silence/Pillars of Creation” (19:45) bridge cult-heavy worship with experimental fuckall, never quite dipping entirely into dark psychedelia, but certainly refusing lucidity outright. I don’t know what’s up with the punch of bass in the back end of “Temple of Silence/Pillars of Creation,” but that froggy sound is gloriously weirdo in its affect, and makes the whole jam for me. They cap with “Last Vision,” an admirably massive riffer that only spans seven and a half minutes but in that time still finds a way to drone the shit out of its nod. Cheers to Chelyabinsk as Megalith Levitation (who are not to be confused with Megaton Leviathan) offer intentionally putrid fruit on which to feast."

Dutch carrysnewundergroundmusic.blogspot.com review by Carry Munter:

"Entheogen assisted bolts from the servitor’s recurve arc toward their target easy as the low-slung bends of the Ural mountains as we land upon this second burst of near-death wavelength from Chelyabinsk, Russia-based psychedelic doom metal trio Megalith Levitation. From these ‘Void Psalms‘ we begin extrapolating visions entirely concerned with the revelations of the Descartes’ demon brain in vat, four apocalyptic lysergic modules intent upon liberation in the wake of profound cosmodicy. We are treated with a fresh layer of silvered skin by this second great act of bludgeoning mantra, a feat which persists as a lightly profound experience solely for the trio’s droning knack for directive headspace. Is it enough to have iterated with a solid follow-up aiming to amp up the psychedelia and heaviness abounding their prior release, or, will this second time around amount to one very extreme feedback loop from beyond?

Formed in 2014 and jamming their surreal thunder-fuzzed doom metal sound to the point of entrancement ever since, we wouldn’t get first contact from this remotely set trio until their debut full-length ‘Acid Doom Rites‘ (2019), an album which I’d enjoyed but ultimately found lacking in riffs as I discovered it several months beyond its initial release. Chances are you’ve chosen to investigate their work for the same reason I did, the striking artwork from GodLikeIkons aka Alexsey Sivitsky is eye-catching as Hell and their logo design is intensely stylized, but there wasn’t an appropriate disclaimer for exactly what the music is and how they’d generated it. Most of Megalith Levitation‘s songs are droning pieces of syncopation which may be composed to some degree but are developed from jam sessions into long-form pieces that are largely directed by a specific vibe and feeling in mind.

In English, eh? Psychedelic doom metal atmosphere which matches the arcane atmospheric dirges of occult blues from Saturnalia Temple, the sludge/stoner crisped of classic Electric Wizard, and some of the more brutal-edged tonal maul of Horse Latitudes and Coltsblood. An album like ‘To the Other‘ provides a good reference for how Megalith Levitation have shaped the experience, imposing traditional doom metal riffs set to nuke-heavy yet slow-churning tides of fuzz which provide plenty of space for riff progressions and leads to offer some intimacy beyond big chunking guitar thud. The spaced nature of earlier Obelyskkh, the persistent extreme doom resonance and walking pace of Heavydeath, and certainly a bit of the monastic, mantra-driven side of psychedelic doom metal (Om, Zaum, etc.) in general could all be used to describe the finer points of Megalith Levitation past and present. The “present” as it were, still includes their split with Dekonstruktor from last summer in terms of my own mental strata, and I’d encourage anyone not fully convinced by ‘Acid Doom Rites’ to sit with that split and consider its finer points. It’d been the release to convince me this band is something special beyond their fine presentation and art curation.

Megalith Levitation are presenting us with a guitar effects warmed hall of ritualistic doom metal trance with the hopes that the listener will listen for as long as it takes to enter a state, or experience a sensation, similar to that which they experience when performing it. By synesthesia, persistence, or recreational drug use you will likely get there thanks to the extended nature of each piece. The three major sessions here range from 13-20 minutes and a shorter final piece makes a most profound statement to end the hour. Sounds exhausting and, per the psychedelic doom metal sub-genre, full of slow-building filler, eh? Actually the first major point of differentiation I’d suggest most listeners should glom onto (and experience for themselves) is the lack of wasted time within Megalith Levitation‘s approach as a general sense of impatience guides their hand in reaching the aforementioned state of trance. Though I wouldn’t describe a single moment of ‘Void Psalms’ as anxietous, there is a sense of being pushed towards gratification rather than easing into it. As such, the experience is awash with lumbering slow-jammed guitar work from the moment “Phantasmagoric Journey” begins and the pace, though decidedly slow, is almost entirely consistent when set within deepest immersion. Ritualistic stoner music for cerebral extremophiles, more-or-less.

The aforementioned opening piece tempers the wild hand of the material found on the split with Dekonstruktor, engaging a more controlled chanted/hymnal vocal style leaving much of the song to slowly bake between layers of ‘Forest of Equilibrium’ coldness and the resonance of modern mantra-paced doom, opening up the dynamic of the song with a crater-pounding riff in approach of the ninth minute. Normally this type of song might feel like a long wait for the action at the end but the more times I’d ripped through the running order the sooner ‘Void Psalms’ had conjured its own space-time continuum before me, an experience not unlike ‘III: So Long Suckers’ in terms of the greater shape revealing itself quite slowly over several listens. Each of the two pieces beyond have at least one similar shift in pace, “Datura Revelations / Lysergic Phantoms” eventually dissolving into a Neurosis-esque shamble n’ wail, and “Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation” making a more rough transition into its second half with a jammed psychedelic doom metal rise. Not all of this works in a consistently effective way, especially the “Pillars of Creation” section of the third piece, but ultimately all of it makes sense in terms of the larger “jam” which the album presents up to this point.

A face appears upon the wall, emotionless. “Last Vision” is a relatively simple song, even considering the ultimate minimalism expressed elsewhere on the album and the structure of it is no more remarkable yet it stands out in mind for the striking implementation of baritone saxophone from guest musician Anton Maximov. This is a double-edged sword for the sake of providing a brilliant standout moment as the album whirls to profound closure while also highlighting what the rest of the album lacks — Color. Psychedelia should absolutely take the listener outside of the ‘self’ and move them somewhere, anywhere, but the cold dark place the restless dirge of ‘Void Psalms’ presents becomes a vast dimly lit world of poisonous wonder for the few moments the saxophone riffs along with Megalith Levitation. I won’t suggest the trio need this type of accoutrement and feature to be good, their work is yet deeply entertaining, but I will say that I’d instantly hoped for this sort of idea to be the path forward for their craft.

As a meditative and colossally heavy psychedelic doom/sludge metal trance-whirler ‘Void Psalms’ is yet one of the better experiences of its kind on offer this year, not only for the sake of its raw and massively stylized sound but for the organic realization of Megalith Levitation‘s own personal connection to doom metal music. Beyond notable conveyance of surreal ritual affect they’ve succeeded in fending off the monotony of the ritual itself, a feat which surely deserves a high recommendation on my part.

Megalith Levitation.

wonderboxmetal.com review:
"This is the second album from Russian doom/stoner metal band Megalith Levitation.

2019’s Acid Doom Rites was a colossal trip into long-form doom, and it made enough of an impact so now that Void Psalms has surfaced, I feel ready once more to dive into the band’s evocative and rich world.

Once again Megalith Levitation offer up four mystical visions, this time spread out over the reduced and more manageable running time of 53 minutes, (when compared to the 77 minutes of the band’s debut album).

The riff is once more king in these songs, with huge slabs of distortion riding through the music like waves. The droning heaviness is hypnotic, and it is easy to almost enter a trance-like state when listening to these songs. These riffs form the basis of the music and are complemented by solid drumming and bass playing. The songs also have the sort of vocals that seem to sail upon the music almost apart from them, yet intrinsically linked nonetheless.

The psychedelic journey that Megalith Levitation have crafted out of these ingredients is one worth taking, and I’d recommend Void Psalms to any explorer of the great doomed beyond.

Highly recommended."

Portugues theoldcoffinspirit.com review by Fabio Miloch:

disagreement.net review by Pascal Thiel:
" Are you looking for an album full of variation that will put a smile on your face? Just leave now, immediately, because you are at the wrong address here. If you want something deeper, hypnotic, trance-like, that will make you reconsider the meaning of life, by all means, stay with me and the second album by Megalith Levitation from the Ural Mountains.

The songs may not be as long anymore as on the debut album two years ago, but just like on last year’s split record with Dekonstruktor, the Russian sludge gods still know how to craft ultra slo-mo sludge doom metal well crawling lava-like under 60 BPM on their second longplayer Void Psalms. The guitar is tuned down ultra-low, the rhythm section comes from even somewhere deeper, and the vocals, instead of delivering evil sounding growls rather sound like the conjuring chants from a black mass. The opener Phantasmagoric Journey is still a rather typical sounding Megalith Levitation track, nicely long at thirteen minutes and offering that monotony that you either will hate or come to love once you understand how this can put you in a trance. Datura Revelations / Lysergic Phantoms is also thirteen minutes long, but comes in two parts, just like the following twenty-minute-long Temple Of Silence / Pillars Of Creation. Both start like your expected sludge metal, but use their final half to reduce the distortion and add a more psychedelic vibe which works really well as a tool for dynamic shift and variation. The concluding Last Vision is at seven and a half minutes the shortest track and features a saxophone which gives it a dark jazz atmosphere.

It’s hard to compare Megalith Levitation to other bands, but throw early Cathedral, Sunn O))) and Bohren & der Club of Gore into the blender, and you might get a little idea of what to expect. Those who like their sludge and doom really incredibly slowed down should like this psychedelic brain trip. Everybody else should still check out to learn what there is to listen to beyond the staleness of the mainstream.

"Megalith Levitation – mystics from the Ural Mountains – are here with a new LP. After the hypnotic “Acid Doom Rites” and cosmic split album with Dekonstruktor, the occult trio have come up with the 53-minute long ‘Void Psalms’. Out on the 1st October 2021 via addicted label.

Here’s something to set your teeth on edge. Something to let reverberate through your skull. Something to make you feel a little queasy. It’s Megalith Levitation and their psychedelic, fuzzed out, brand of doom and Void Psalms might be the mysterious unit pushing things to the brink.

Four tracks, four acid metal trips, the goal is to make the listener feel as ‘wacked out’ as possible while showcasing a strong ear for lengthy detail. Megalith Levitation know exactly what they’re doing here as each track twists and turns like a snake eating itself. Can you picture it?

Get used to conjuring up images from your nightmares as the slow and brooding noise that emanates from this entity consumes. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself slack-jawed and drooling, Void Psalms is a musical lobotomy.

Does that sound like a fun listen? Well, you’re wrong. There’s nothing fun about this at all but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. Far from it. Megalith Levitation have crafted uncomfortable music while barely breaking a sweat. This is heaviness that you sink into and getting out is no easy task at all.

German hell-is-open.de review by Alucard:
"Gleich zu Beginn: Das Albumartwork is nix.

www.facebook.com/cvltlegion review by Fronas Zalve:
"Malevolent inhabitants of an abyssal sea conspire to force people to be subsumed into the liquid void!

Baleful heaps of fuzz make their antipathy towards the people of the land known, and their influence on the people nearing the shore can be likened to the effect that the abrupt manifestation of looming clouds would have on unsuspecting people who anticipated nothing but sunshine, though this is admittedly a bit more menacing. It's clear that we are carried by the undertow for quite a while, for the repetitive nature of the riffs and the length of the tunes doesn't leave any room for doubt. All the while, distant chants impart a pilgrimage-ish quality to the mucky deluge, making the shoreline's increasing distance painfully impossible to be unaware of.

The fuzziness could stand to be a little bit less gaseously and weighty. Perhaps not altogether but rather at certain times. When you consider the length of the opuses, it's easy to see how this gets to be a little leaden. A couple of poundage-related transitions could've been used in each tune.

Taking rock from the 70’s, adding extra weight as well as evil drags it into the realm of metal, and being that any metal that gets slowed down becomes doom in the process, “Void Psalms” wears that moniker proudly. The fuzziness of the distortion and sense that many of the riffs would “groove” at mid-paced movements with the style of clear singing brings a stoner metal connection. Wading into the swamp of misery as the distortion tone becomes fuzzy with muck pulls it through sludge, although many moments of the album ride the edges of interpretation, so your mileage may vary.

"Void Psalms" is a solemnly watery voyage across malignant waters that might not be quite as sedative as you think, but if you're looking for some rather heartless and gloomy filth, let this carry you away…. Just don't expect to ever come back!

Not bad! 6/10"

German x-crash.de review by Joxe Schaefer:
Daumen hoch!"

German keep-on-rocking.com review by Rainer Kerber:

Der Doppel-Titel “Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation” kratzt haarscharf an den zwanzig Minuten.

English version:
"The trio Megalith Levitation comes from one of the easternmost corners of Europe. Their hometown is Chelyabinsk, a large city at the Ural Mountains, Russia’s seventh largest city. We’ll keep quiet about the strange names in the line-up. They are probably the three first letters of their names (as usual in Russia: first name, patronymic, surname – NPS Smiley). The band photo is also not very informative. Three guys hidden under black cassocks. So the main focus should be on the music. “Void Psalms” is the second album of the Russian Doomers. Let’s have a listen to the lysergic sound worlds (band quote).

It booms deep from the speakers. Turn it up and feel the bass. That is already the motto of “Phantasmagoric Journey”. More than thirteen minutes of Funeral Doom with hypnotic vocals. The guitar riffs sound heavily distorted. And these are the basis of the sound. Thirteen minutes? And that’s not even the longest song on the album. The double track “Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation” scratches a hair’s breadth on the twenty minutes. All songs are especially impressive at high volume. A PA system with a subwoofer or headphones with very good bass reproduction are the basis for listening pleasure. Especially because the sound pours out of the speakers like viscous lava over the entire playing time. The last song, “Last Vision”, on the other hand, is only eight minutes short.

You have to listen carefully to “Void Psalms”. Even the guitar solos are strongly slowed down, gloomy and distorted. You think you can hear the ghosts and gnomes stomping through the Ural Mountains. Just the right soundtrack for the ever shorter and darker days of the winter half-year. A few years ago, I couldn’t do much with this kind of music. But now I’m really into this melancholic sound."

Russian resurgam27.wordpress.com review:

Megalith Levitation.

Russian csbr-rock.com review by San Solo:

Datura Revelations / Lysergic Phantoms

Sunn O))), Earth, Electric Wizard

Polish apocalypticrites.blogspot.com review by Hatzamoth:
Niebotycznie tłuste, potężne beczki przytłaczają pełzającymi tempami, ziarnisty, grubo ciosany bas mieli niespiesznie wnętrzności na krwawą miazgę, gęste niczym cuchnące rozkładem bagno, przeciągane, opasłe, unoszące się i opadające niczym fale riffy powodują niemal fizyczny ból i cierpienie, a czyste, obrzędowe, delikatnie wycofane, nawiedzone wokale z lekkim pogłosem, przeklęte szepty i zawodzenia opętanej niewiasty sprawiają, że materiał ten przeokrutnie ryje beret i wraz z wszystkimi, zastosowanymi tu środkami wyrazu, czyli kwaśnym, niepokojącym wysoce saksofonem barytonowym, mrocznymi, psychodelicznymi teksturami, przepełnionymi ciemnością, basowymi tonami, ezoteryczną atmosferą i powykręcanymi, dziwacznymi, ale zarazem dziwnie wciągającymi zagrywkami metodycznie wysysa z nas życie, dając złudne poczucie medytacyjnego stanu spokoju, spełnienia i zadowolenia.

Russian vk.com/boltendal review by Alexey Fedorov (aka Lemmy Forever):
Bandcamp: Megalith Levitation materialized from the eternal void and acid vapors of Chelyabinsk, Russia in April 2016 to bare their psalms into this world. The servitors of the cult were chosen: SAA-Sermons & Fuzzmagic, KKV-Thunderbass, PAN-Skullhammers and until now remain unchanged.

echoesanddust.com review by David Bowes:
"Talk about any doom release and you’ll find the same words being bandied around – monolithic. Lysergic. Earth-shattering. One word that doesn’t get enough traction, though, is ‘arcane’ and yet it’s the first thing that springs to mind when listening to Void Psalms. The second album for Chelyabinsk psychedelic doomsters Megalith Levitation taps into something primal, spiritual and genuinely vast across its four tracks, infusing old-school riffing with left-field meanderings and druidic chants that feel like they could herald the coming of Yog-Sothoth with each line.

The sprawling ‘Phantasmagoric Journey’ opens the record with an immediate sign that Megalith Levitation have come a long way from their already-impressive debut Acid Doom Rites, cutting back on the overwhelming runtimes but still cramming in as much atmosphere, groove and filthy riffing. The tone throughout is practically coated in grime, the lurching riffs all saturated with as much fuzz as the microphones could handle, and though the grooves don’t vary much from what the genre has delivered in the past40 years, when they are coupled with a uniquely monastic delivery style more suited to sermons than slo-mo headbanging, it’s like crawling through a Stygian hellscape in all the right ways.

The two-part ‘Datura Revelations / Lysergic Phantoms’ follows a similarly weighty route but takes care to neatly delineate its varying strains, with the first part doubling down on both the leaden doom guitarwork and on liturgical vocal delivery, both courtesy of the enigmatic SAA. The lyrics are cosmic horror sublimity, “We are the sparks of the fire / That can drown suns in gloom” croaked to a bass-heavy rumble coming across far more impactful than it might have in less worthy hands. ‘Lysergic Phantoms’ sticks to its name and offers a meandering, tripped out journey that’s uniquely unsettling and still resolutely metal and though it doesn’t have the same end-of-days heft, the strange ululating cries that sign the tune off carry their own weight admirably.

There isn’t much in the way of weak links to Megalith Levitation’s sound because you always get exactly what you signed up for and usually a fair bit more, but ‘Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation’ does get to be frustratingly samey, its first 5 minutes never wavering in their thick, murky sound but never really taking off either. It’s only when it summons its second form that they really let rip and it’s honestly the album’s shining moment. The bass comes through warped and twisted, rippling as though underwater, a blistering solo snakes through empty space for what feels like an eternity, and consciousness-expansion is very much the name of the game. Maybe it’s the contrast between these two disparate sides that really nails ‘Pillars of Creation’s psychedelic journeying but whatever they were trying, it works here.

‘Last Vision’ closes the album out on an odd note, halving the length and upping the tempo in what feels like a hint to future endeavours. The bass is even more cutting, the percussion that little touch sharper and snappier, and even the lyrics feel like there is a greater sense of finality, not just in how they close out the album but in how they seemingly foretell the end of time and existence, the universe’s final collapse into vacuum decay and nothingness brought into sharp focus with lines like, “The sun is swallowed by the ego of mankind / The source of life was bound by cosmic ice.” Throw in a fevered sax run, a heavy dose of downtuned powerdoom and it feels as if Zu and Om had teamed up to score the Book of Revelations.

On the whole, Void Psalms is a perfection of ideas that the trio already seemed to have a great grasp of, as well as being a truly impressive psychedelic doom album. It journeys to the cosmos at the same time as it explores the psyche and frailties of man, albeit on a grand scale, and in terms of ambition it’s impossible to fault how well they’ve managed to pull it off. On top of that, it just begs to be played loud enough to make furniture (and teeth) rattle, so it’s worth checking out just to give those new speakers a run for their money alone."

German vanbauseneick.de/krautnick/ review by Matze van Bauseneick:

Of Silence/Pillars Of Creation“.

dprp.net review by Calum Gibson:
"Out of Russia emerges Megalith Levitation, with their second album Void Psalms. A continuation of their brand of doom/sludge metal, the trio have landed with four tracks totalling 53 minutes. Promises of draconian heaviness with monotonous grit abound, so I guess I should delve in.

Phantasmagoric Journey leads us into the album with a slow, plodding and pounding set of chords. Down-tuned and heavy, the fuzz of the guitars sets the tone. Droning vocals instil a sense of psychedelic occults, as the song takes on an almost trance-like state with the repetition.

Following this, Datura Revelations / Lysergic Phantoms comes in with a similar vibe, focusing on minimalism and repetition. You almost don't notice the 13 minutes of the song, as it draws you into the feeling of ritual and hypnosis.

Nearing the end of the album, Temple of Silence / Pillars of Creation comes shuffling in with a continuation of the slow and heavy chugs. Curiously, at the 7–8-minute mark, the riffs change up. The same time-point as on the previous tracks. Unfortunately for my tastes, not much else changes.

And finally, we have Last Vision. This track picks up the pace slightly, but still keeps with the tradition of chugging chords that is present throughout the rest of the album. There are some interesting and tension-building fuzzy solos occasionally, which help to round off the album with a final blast of psychedelic vibes.

All in all, the album as a whole isn't for me. I enjoy this style of doom, sometimes, but I prefer it in shorter segments. So while there is nothing inherently bad about the album, the production is reasonable, it gets across the atmosphere well, it achieves that “heavy, pounding occultist doom” sound, I found it difficult to enjoy in this instance.

I feel bands like this have a niche market. If you like stoner doom such as Electric Wizard, Jumbo's Killcrane or Heavydeath (now known as Den Tunga Döden), then I wager these guys will suit your style. I'll unfortunately pass."

Spanish (Chile) lahabitacion235.com review by Ruben Herrera:

Tasaisen laadukkaan teoksen päättää levyn ”kepein” kappale Last Vision, jolla kuullaan Anton Maximovin tyylikästä saksofonisooloilua. Sitä jäin kaipaamaan tälle levylle enemmänkin.

"Megalith Levitation materialized from the eternal void and acid vapors of Chelyabinsk, Russia in April 2016 to bare their psalms into this world. And Madman Tony Maim loved their earlier Acid Doom Rites release! Can you already hear that perfect Addicted Label fit? On Void Psalms they give us all they have and whip us into a frenzy with their psychedelic doom, acid metal, sludge and so much unhallowed rumbling low-end!"

Italian thepitofthedamned.blogspot.com review by Francesco Scarci:

Hungarian femforgacs.hu review by Boymester:
"Hiában szeretem a lassú zenéket, ebből is igencsak válogatósnak tartom magamat.

Forrest Gump tanácsára hivatkozva elindul a Temple Of Silence/Pillars Of Creation, a maga 19 perces játékidejével.

Spanish lamuerteteniaunblog.blogspot.com review by Coronel Mortimer:

"Rivers of black lava
Are falling down
Down to the bottomless
Abyss of heaven

Holographic dust
Of assumed gods
Floating on the void
Like grains of gold"

"Grey walls are high
Built from bones of time
The gates spark
With the star dust"

"We are the sparks of the fire
That can drown suns in gloom
We are the roar of all whispers
Of the souls that've been doomed"

Russian vk.com/ixtiandrs_garden review by Alexey Fedorov:
Bandcamp: Megalith Levitation materialized from the eternal void and acid vapors of Chelyabinsk, Russia in April 2016 to bare their psalms into this world. The servitors of the cult were chosen: SAA-Sermons & Fuzzmagic, KKV-Thunderbass, PAN-Skullhammers and until now remain unchanged.

concreteweb.be review by Ivan Tibos:
"In a very near future, Aesthetic Death and Megalith Levitation will officially release the new album Obscure Fire (of course you might expect a review on that recording in some future), but this review will deal with the former full-length, Void Psalms, which was (and still is, of course) the second full-album by Russia’s Megalith Levitation. It was actually released almost a year and a half ago, but then again: so what? Great material will always deserve (my) attention and promotion.

The band was formed in 2016, yet it took until the second half of 2019 before this trio did release their debut Acid Doom Rites (initially digitally self-released, yet soon after co-released physically by Hymns Of Apocalypse, which is, as far as I know, not active anymore). More recently, vocalist and guitar player SAA (‘sermons and fuzzmagic’), drummer PAN (‘skullhammers’) and bassist KKV (‘thunderbass’) recorded four lengthy (new) tracks under the Void Psalms moniker; the four of them clocking more than fifty-three minutes, by the way. The whole got mixed and mastered by Dekonstruktor’s Denis ‘Memphis’ Petrov. The physical edition is a three-folded digipack compact-disc, which includes the lyrics, and which comes with very psychedelic, mind-raping artwork by Aleksey ‘GodLikeIcons’ Sivitsky (whom you might recognize from his visual assistance for e.g. Remote, Dig Me No Grave, Panopticon Death, Regicide or Cyanide Grenade, amongst others.

Everything reeks of hazy pleasure. …as from the opening riff… …the whole of the time…

This goes for the visual artwork, yet those trusted with this band will surely recognize the fuzzy approach by this trio. What these guys perform is intoxicating – and intoxicated – Drone Doom Stoner Sludge, drenched in clouds sporae (spores) and a nebula of THC. It’s ultimately slow-paced stuff, sluggish and ponderous, build around three pillars: riffs, voices and the rhythm section. The vocals are of the evocative, mesmerizing kind. SAA’s voice is unclean (pay attention: it has nothing to do with screams or grunts or whatsoever), ritualistic and adjuring, with long-stretched invocations and obtesting reveries. The timbre has a monotonous tone, which fits to the down-earthed character of the songs.

Seen from instrumental point of listen, one can consider this stuff rather sludgy than melodious, despite the atmospheric harmonies. The basement gets build on layers of vigorous lead-guitar riffs and deep-tuned bass melodies, injected by hypnotic leads and occult-laden textures. Together with the marvellous drum-patterns, the total experience induces a soporific state-of-mind (not as in ‘dull’, yet like in ‘ravishing’), combining bleakness with enrichment, and subconscious hypnagogia with a magnified responsiveness. Trance, meditation, super-consciousness and depersonalisation; in a ceremonial sense, Void Psalms act like a sermon to guide the listener through shamanistic, and somehow dystopian, revelations. The vapourish surrounding clothes the whole in a psychedelic mist; especially within the last track (a ‘shorter’ one, yet also the most ‘varying’ one), Last Vision (with saxophone !), that sense of self-mutilating satisfaction reaches its ecstasy.

For fans of: Zaum, Bongripper, Saturnalia Temple, Conan, Coltsblood, Dekonstruktor, Electric Wizard, or even Esoteric and Sleep …"

gbumps.blog review:
"We are starting from a triple point where doom metal and stoner are sharing their powers with sludge. As expected, each of the three components enhances the action of the others. Megalith Levitation, a trio from Chelyabinsk uses this magical property in their rituals, plunging the audience into a hypnotic state. Pulling the hoods of their robes over their faces, the guys launch heavy waves from the stage that avoid any protective mechanisms. The second release by the band united the proclamations which the trio addresses to the crowd and to the higher forces."
